Legal Knowledge Modeling
Specialized Web Editors for Legal Drafting and Legal reasoning
We have a long experience in developing specialized web editors for legal drafting, temporal consolidation, semantic information retrieval applied to legal documents, legal reasoning, compliance checking. Our tools, SIMPLEX and RAWE, are dedicated to marking up legal documents (based on Akoma Ntoso, the LegalXML standard family of OASIS), and to model norms in LegalRuleML (e.g., rights, obligations, violations, permissions, prohibitions). We have extensive experience across languages and cultures, including non-Latin alphabets (e.g. Cyrillic and Chinese) and right-to-left scripts (e.g., Arabic, Hebrew).
Our products reflect the legal tradition of each country, and we apply the fundamental principles of legal theory to foster the local legal culture creating machine-readable Akoma Ntoso annotations. Our goal is to simplify the law-making process, making it quicker, better in quality, more transparent, easily updated, digital-ready, machine-consumable and searchable.
Converting legal document collections into Akoma Ntoso
We have a long experience in converting legacy document collections into Akoma Ntoso, managing multiple input formats (such as plain text, Word, PDF, HTML, etc.) and multiple human languages, including support for multilinguism. We use advanced NLP and AI tools to extract relevant legal knowledge from the content of documents. We use specialized dashboard interfaces to monitor the quality of the conversion and refine the outcome of the automated conversion.
Legal Ontologies
Annotations of legal documents is integrated with legal ontologies from a variety of different knowledge formalizations: from simple linguistic ontologies (e.g., EUROVOC), to linked data models (e.g., DCAT), to full-scale legal domain ontologies (e.g., privacy, IPR, SDG, AGROVOC), to core ontologies (e.g., ontology design patterns). Legal ontologies allow the representation of knowledge graphs and improve the quality of information retrieval through the use of SPARQL queries, so as to detect relationships in the complex network of information in legal systems.
Open Government data is one of the goals of many legal ontologies but we also help supporting smart contracts through an homogenous taxonomy of legal concepts, as well as legal reasoning so as to make all the application interoperable through a common semantic layer.
AI, Legal Data Analytics and Akoma Ntoso
AI and Data Analytics can now be applied to legal documents and data, but without appropriate context setting and a full understanding of the structures of documents it is hard to extract, connect, classify, cluster and infer the knowledge that is present there. In the legal domain the context is fundamental in particular with regard to jurisdiction, temporal parameters, spatial dimension, interrelationship between obligations and derogations. For this reason, the BitNomos team developed custom AI and data analytics techniques to combine Akoma Ntoso markup with Machine Learning and Deep Learning approaches. Hybrid solutions using AI, LegalXML standards, Semantic web, Legal Ontologies are our approach to preserve the legal knowledge.
Advanced training on LegalXML, AI, Big Data, Blockchain
The BitNomos team offers advanced and specialistic training courses to specific audiences about LegalXML standards, AI, Big Data, privacy-by-design, and Blockchain applied to the legal domain. Our training includes practical sessions, exercises, examples, designed with the participants by using innovative learning techniques. We support both in presence and distant courses.
Legal Design
Legal documents have been for centuries the main tool to generate norms (e.g. legislative regulations), prescriptive rules (e.g., administrative ordinance, judgments), contracts. Legal documents are also the media to communicate the legal message to citizens, organizations, authorities. To improve the quality of legal documents in the XXI Century, many different disciplines are needed: human-computer interaction approaches, legal theory approach, legal knowledge representation using formal ontology, language analysis, visual and art techniques. BitNomos has implemented several solutions in this light to simplify the legal concepts and to explain them to end-users without relax the legal message.
Legal Informatics Analysis and Consultancy
Privacy-by-design, Law-by-design, Ethics-by-design
The EU regulation is shaping the data society adopting several new rules. Privacy, data governance, AI regulation, Digital market, Copyrights are now key assets of each innovative informatic solution in order to have success in the market. Minimizing the legal risks and respecting the ethics principles are fundamental approaches for winning ICT solutions. We offer high level consultancy capable to integrate legal and ethics analysis with a deep knowledge of technical domains. This peculiar interdisciplinary methodology and competences in BitNomos team permits to find brilliant solutions in complex ICT situations.
Digital Transformation for NextGeneration: consultancy and training
We are living in the onlife era where the digitalization of the processes in the public administration is a key factor for achieving good eGov services, solid economy, social cohesion, inclusive society, ethics sustainability. AI, big data, smart cities, Internet of Things, electronic ledgers, and other enhancing technologies must be elaborated in the light law EU and domestic regulation to foster the ICT an in meantime to comply the normative and ethics prescriptions. BitNomos teams offer consultancy on specific complex ICT projects in eGov and eCommerce sectors, but also in the digital citizenship for shaping the awareness in the next generations (e.g., hate speech, social media ethics, privacy and security of the infosphere).
Blockchain and Smart Contract for THE Legal Domain
Intelligible Contracts
One of the main problems in the smart legal contract is to maintain trusted and legal valid the passage between the legal text of the document and its coding in the blockchain platform. This solution offers a platform based on blockchain (e.g., Ethereum, Algorand) that stores in IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) the documents (e.g., contract, regulations, administrative acts) using the electronic identification for the authentication of the actors. We are compliant with eIDAS regulation and SPID, in this way the legal document tracked in the blockchain and executed by smart contract is indissoluble linked with the intelligible legal document human-readable, implementing in this way the principle of explicability and transparency. Open data Licence, Internet of Things policy, Privacy data policy and agreement are only some examples of scenario manageable with this platform.
